Ministry of Discipline

“Spread the Love, and No it’s Not all in the Wrist.”
Introduction
March 29 2010
The Ministry of Discipline was created March 26 2010 under the auspices of SuperParents.com.au, an online family and community resource based in Perth, Western Australia. The Ministry originated in response to the misunderstanding of the term ‘discipline,’ assumed to be the use of punishment in bringing about compliancy in children.
Read the following instances of physical punishment I’ve recently been sent by friends since starting the Ministry.
“The school I went to in Africa implemented Corporal Punishment, we were caned
for misdemeanours on a monotonously regular basis. Chalk and board rubbers were
thrown at our heads in class, humiliation was used as a form of castigation. ” G. McMaster
“The extent of chalk related violence in my school was inflicted by one particular science
teacher who used to throw bits of chalk to wake comatose students in her class.” A. Aw
“I know someone who canes her 3 sons starting at their tender age of 1 years old!” S. Mui
The premise of the Ministry is that discipline should really be a nurturing endeavour, that parents have alternatives other than the use of corporal punishment, and that all people have a responsibility to promote this campaign to elicit positive outcomes within all families.
The future of the Ministry relies on the participation of all who are able to disseminate the message that children need to be nurtured intelligently. No child need be brought up in an environment fearing physical pain and distress. If you are in a position to contribute to the spread of this message, please invest the time and take a stance for a good cause.
There are those households perpetuating the travesty of continuing physical punishment on their offspring. The children in those households have no recourse and no way out. Physical pain is inflicted and their emotional distress is met with apathy, or worse still a misguided notion that ‘sparing the rod will spoil the child.’
Please contact the Ministry if you are interested in developing and promoting further policies to promote ‘nurturing discipline.’ You may contact us for further information.
